All Territorians Aged 60+ Now Eligible For Pfizer

09 September 2021

The vaccine rollout in the Northern Territory will further accelerate with the Pfizer vaccine set to be made available to all Territorians aged 60 and above.

Plentiful supply of Pfizer has enabled the Territory Labor Government to take this nation-leading step which will also secure faster vaccination rates across the NT.

The Pfizer vaccine has been available to all eligible Territorians across the NT except in the Greater Darwin due to our remote status.  We are now able to also offer the Pfizer vaccine to Territorians aged over 60 years in the Greater Darwin area. This means that someone aged 60 years and over who gets their first dose this month will be fully vaccinated before Christmas.

Getting as many Territorians fully vaccinated as quickly as possible is our priority so we can get life back to normal sooner.

This initiative builds on the Northern Territory’s highly successful vaccine rates with 70 per cent of Territorians having received their first dose while 50 per cent of people are fully vaccinated.

Pfizer bookings for people aged 60 and over will be available from 9am on Friday 10 September 2021 from NT COVID-19 vaccination centres, participating GPs and Aboriginal health organisations.

Astra Zeneca is a safe, effective and free vaccine which remains available in the Northern Territory through GPs, Community Pharmacies and on a second dose basis at selected Northern Territory Government COVID-19 vaccine clinics.

If you have already received your first dose of Astra Zeneca it is vital that you get your second Astra Zeneca dose. You need two doses of the same vaccine to ensure the best protection.

Roll up your sleeve and book your COVID-19 vaccine

Quotes from Health Minister Natasha Fyles

“We are the first jurisdiction in the country to extend Pfizer eligibility to all Territorians aged 60 years and over and this gives us the perfect opportunity to get more people fully vaccinated more quickly.

“Territorians can get fully vaccinated three weeks after their first dose of Pfizer which means we will see faster rates of second dose vaccination across the Territory.

“We know older Territorians are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 so the faster we can get everyone fully vaccinated the safer we will be as a community.

“Astra Zeneca remains freely available at GPs and Community Pharmacies and I encourage eligible Territorians who have already made bookings to not cancel appointments.”
