Privacy statement

From time to time, the Chief Health Officer of the Northern Territory may require some businesses or persons to collect information about people who attend a location. This is for COVID-19 contact tracing.

To comply with their legal obligations, businesses may require or give you the option to record that you visited them via The Territory Check In.

Information collected by The Territory Check In

The Territory Check In will only collect the personal information you choose to provide it when you check in.

The information you will be asked to provide may include:

  • that you attended a particular location at a particular time;
  • that other persons attended a particular location at a particular time;
  • contact information for yourself and others, such as full names, phone numbers, and email addresses;
  • The vaccination status of yourself and any guests with linked COVID-19 digital certificate(s);
  • Information about the technology you used to check in.

When using the Territory Check In app, the app uses your device camera to scan The Territory Check In app QR codes which contain information about the location you are checking into.

Checking in other people

The Territory Check In allows you to check in friends and family using your app.  You must seek the consent of any other person before you provide their information via The Territory Check In, and make them aware of this Privacy Statement.

What happens if you do not provide the information

Failure to provide the information may mean that a person can be denied access to a location or venue. If you do not want to use The Territory Check In, you should speak to the business about whether they are collecting required information in any other way.

Security of your information and third party access

All personal information collected by The Territory Check In will be stored securely in servers under an agreement with Microsoft Azure. The information will be accessible to the Department of Health (NT) for COVID-19 contact tracing, and to the Department of Corporate and Digital Development (NT) to the extent necessary to provide technical support to the Department of Health (NT).

The Department of Health (NT), Department of Corporate and Digital Development (NT), and Microsoft Azure are all required not to access or share your personal information with third parties, except as authorised or required by law.

Transfer of information outside the Territory

The information you provide via The Territory Check In may be transferred outside the Northern Territory to a server in an Australian location.
